The first book that I had ever received from my love was Oscar Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray". Oscar Wilde was a great conversationalist and a famous wit, he was known for his comic plays and had only published his only novel, "The Picture of Dorian Gray" which tells the story of a young man who traded his soul to the devil to gain his immortality and remain ageless and beautiful forever. It was his portrait that aged and not him in flesh.
Oscar Wilde's book discusses three different themes: the negative effects of influences, the reality about the society and the facts about immorality.
His book examines the negative effects of influences, just like what the character Lord Henry did to Dorian Gray, he greatly influenced the latter to treasure his youth and beauty because he said that someday it will just fade. So Dorian, being mesmerized by his words, gave in, and follow his evil suggestion.
He also exposed the reality about the society, that if someone is wealthy and beautiful, many people would admire you, many people would worship you and many would love you. Likewise, Dorian gray was loved by his elite friends because of his beauty and youth but, they did not know that his perfectness is not real.
The Picture of Dorian Gray also confers the facts about immorality. Because of the hideous behavior that Dorian had became, he then entered himself to immoral things, he could not stop his vices such as mating with different people including males and females, and drugs. That in real life, happens.
I really love Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, in fact it has it's movie adaptation, filmed way back in 1945 and was directed by Albert Lewin and stars George Sanders as Lord Henry Wotton and Hurd Hatfield as Dorian Gray. I highly recommend this movie to those people who want to experience drama and suspense at the same time. The book is also great just like it's movie.
Indeed,Oscar Wilde's Story, enlightened my views in life, that no matter how wealthy and beautiful you are, as long as you are not satisfied with your life, happiness is hard to find.
